Women's Health

In our effort to protect, promote & improve the health of all people in Florida, the Florida Department of Health in Osceola has several programs directed towards women’s health.  We are an active participant in the Florida Department of Health Breast and Cervical program and Family Planning program.
 
Family Planning
Family planning plays a key role in the prevention of unintended pregnancy, including adolescent pregnancy. Preventing unintended pregnancy also reduces the incidence of abortion and improves birth outcomes. Comprehensive family planning services with FDA approved methods of contraception are available at the Osceola County Health Department. Services provided, are on a sliding scale fee based on the individual’s income after eligibility has been determined.

Initial Family Planning visits include a health history, pre-examination education session, pre-conception counseling, required lab tests, and selection of contraceptive method and provision of supplies. Annual Family Planning visits include updating data, physical exam, required lab tests and addressing renewal needs of contraceptive methods. Family Planning services to minors include an assessment, education and counseling, intervention and planning and evaluation.

• In addition, family planning information, education, and services reduce both the incidence and impact of sexually transmitted diseases through screening and treatment.

Did You Know
• Cervical cancer is the easiest female cancer to prevent, with regular screening tests and follow-up. It also is highly curable when found and treated early.
• We offer various types of birth control methods including “the pill”, Depo injections, IUD’s and sterilization.

Pregnancy Testing
One of the many services offered at Florida Department of Health in Osceola is pregnancy testing.  Also included in this service for those who are positive we perform a Healthy Start risk assessment, offer options for prenatal care, financial eligibility screenings, and assistance with Medicaid application and refer to WIC. For those who are negative we refer and schedule if client desires an appointment for Family Planning service.

• Symptoms of pregnancy could include: missed period, nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue, frequent urination
• A positive pregnancy can be detected soon after missing your period.
• Early prenatal care is essential for a healthy baby.             

          
Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Program

The Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (BCCEDP) makes it easy to have doctor-recommended breast and cervical cancer screenings like Clinical Breast Examinations (CBE), Mammograms, and Pap Smears for uninsured women between the ages of 50 to 64. In addition to testing for the early detection of breast and cervical cancer, this program also provides further diagnostic testing and referral to treating providers for those women who have been diagnosed with either breast or cervical cancer.
