To better serve and protect our community, the Florida Department of Health in Osceola County (DOH-Osceola) is partnering with community-based organizations, agencies, and businesses to develop a network of Closed Points of Dispensing (PODs). These PODs will be activated in the case of an emergency related to a biological attack or disease outbreak requiring mass dispensing of medical countermeasures.
During a public health emergency, PODs are locations where large populations can receive medications or vaccinations very quickly. They are activated when a biological attack or disease outbreak has occurred and medical countermeasures must be dispensed or distributed to preserve the life, safety, and/or health of the community. Most PODs are open to the public and will be located throughout Osceola County to provide accessibility for every community. In an emergency, media outlets and government agencies will release POD locations and hours of operation.
Closed PODs are operated by and serve a particular agency, business, community organization, club, or association. They are not open to the public like other PODs.
The Florida Department of Health requires an agreement with an organization ahead of time to provide medical countermeasures to a Closed POD.
