Special needs shelters can provide safe refuge for people who require assistance with the management of a health condition or supervision of that condition by a health care professional during a time of disaster.
The Florida Department of Health in Osceola County (DOH-Osceola) is responsible for the management and staffing of our special needs shelters during emergency events that threaten the community.
We work in coordination with the Osceola County Office of Emergency Management to ensure the safety of all our residents who require assistance that exceed the services provided at a general population shelter.

Special needs shelters are for those with disabilities or who require medical care that exceeds basic first aid. Preregistration is important so emergency responders can ensure space is reserved for those with the greatest need.
